Beneficial effects of animal cell technology

This 32-page full colour booklet is available from the secretariat. It describes the benefits of the technology for today's society and the environment. It gives examples how biotechnology makes biopharmaceuticals and vaccines safer and available. A short version can be read by clicking here.

The what and why of patents

At the height of the debate on biotechnology patents in Europe, we published a position paper explaining patents and describing the need for them. You can read the text by clicking here.

   Future areas of research

A major task of ACTIP is advising the Commission regarding future areas of precompetitive research that are most likely to benefit from Community funding. An important selection criterion is applicability in a wide range of industries and benefit to patients and the environment. Click here to read the position paper submitted as advice for the drafting of the European Commission's 6th Framework Programme.

  Statement on Gene Therapy

Together with the European Society for Gene Transfer and Therapy (ESGT), ACTIP published a position paper on somatic gene therapy and a related technology, nucleic acid vaccination (NAVAC). Click here for the full text of the position paper. The paper on somatic gene therapy contains an explanation of the approach as well as statistics on worldwide clinical trials in somatic gene therapy.
