ACTIP

Objectives

 Objectives ACTIP, revised 2001

    ACTIP is an independent and informal, science-based forum of European companies with an active interest in the use of animal cell technology in the development and production of biopharmaceuticals, vaccines and other preventative or therapeutic approaches.

 Its objectives are:

1.

To follow cutting-edge development in research, as carried out in EC funded projects, SMEs, larger companies and academia. Its main focus will be on the application of animal cell technologies in the production of biopharmaceuticals, vaccines and gene therapy approaches. Developments in fields such as in vitro toxicology, tissue engineering, stem cell research, proteomics/genomics, xenotransplantation and other cellular expression systems will be followed where there is a clear relationship with the enabling technologies associated with animal cells;

2.

To identify areas which would benefit most from a concerted European research effort, to provide suggestions how best to fund and organise such funding, and to ensure that appropriate organisations and authorities are informed of these views through membership-approved position papers and take them into account in their decision making process. Preferentially, ACTIP will nurture relationships with the European Commission and the European Parliament in relation to EU funded R&D;

3.

To offer an informal forum where academia and industry can obtain up-to-date information about recent developments in science, regulatory affairs and industry and where opportunities are created for efficient and rewarding networking activities;

4

 To provide a forum in which SMEs, including virtual companies, can potentially accelerate their drug development timelines by interaction with key scientists and executives from other biopharmaceutical companies, which include the major European players in this arena;

 5.

 To provide national and international governments, sector federations and dedicated lobby groups with appropriate, science-based information through membership approved position papers about emerging cellular technologies and their applications.
